I struggled last semester in med school. I had a really hard time trying to learn all of the information. Sometimes I would normally look at our scribe notes which are usually 8-12 pages depending on the class. That was just too much information for me to handle. I noticed that I had a lot of trouble following ppt presentations (probably because most professors don't know how to make a proper presentation). I felt like teachers would talk about one subtopic, move to the next one, and then bring it back to the first subtopic (which is good). However, I had a hard time fixing my notes to show the connections. Now I just draw an arrow and look at the map 1-2 times a week and I remember how the ideas connect. Anyway I used this book to sketch my notes in class. At home I would either retrace or redraw. Since following this book with a few personal modifications for my busy lifestyle, my grades have soared from barely passing to As and Bs. I now am able to easily follow lectures and working half as hard.

This book is so easy to read and understand. I bought it back in December to read over Winter break and wanted to put Mind Maps into effect in my Spring semester. Personally, I am a visual learner and with mind maps organizing my notes before or after lectures, I found it easy to remember how I organized everything in my own way & I got A's in my classes. Let's just say, it may seem super intuitive and how hard can making a map be for your notes, but everything is even clearer once you get through each chapter. I definitely recommend this book, it kept me interested throughout the entire way!

An excellent plot, rich characters, funny, and a quick read. Highly recommend. A great book for middle school aged kids between 11-13yrs old. However, my son enjoyed it so much that he wanted me to read it too, and I couldn't put it down and found myself laughing out loud a lot! So it's fun for all ages! Especially anyone who is learning about Shakespeare or just happens to love Shakespeare.

My son loves Gordon Norman's books. He is 10 and loves to read. He likes this one so much he is already re reading it.

My 9 year old begged me to get him this book after all his friends told him how good it is. My son has enjoyed reading it and has thanked me multiple times.

Kennedy's emphasis on understanding the sampling distribution of an estimator and laying the groundwork for the basic properties of estimators are fundamental concepts to understand econometric theory and practice.

Kennedy's Guide to Econometrics explains econometrics more clearly than any other book I have read. This book will not make you into an econometrician. But, this is definitely the place to start your education on empirical methods in economics.For a book of this size, he covers a lot of territory. He covers the CLR model and hypothesis testing well, and discusses a few other things too. This guide is hardly encyclopedic. However, it covers the things economists need to know most.Kennedy does more than just explain econometrics. He spells out the limits of econometric analysis. Texts often pay little attention to the 'con in econometrics'. Not Kennedy. He discusses the limitations and defects in standard techniques, as well as their advantages.The only thing wrong with this book is that it does not carry the reader along far enough. After reading this book, most reader's will likely move on to a standard (i.e. badly written) econometrics textbook. In contrast, this book is written so well that it almost makes learning econometrics fun!

This is the fourth edition of a very popular text for an introductory graduate level course in econometrics. Although designed for econometricians and economics majors, the book has a lot to offer the statistician (time series analyst). There is good coverage of both the classical econometric models and the classical ARIMA time series models. The difference, as Kennedy points out, is that most univariate statistical time series models use only the past history to model and forecast the future while the econometric models emphasize the inclusion of economic predictor variables and not the past history.However, in recent years, and partly because in fair-fight forecasting competitions the Box-Jenkins time series methods have done better than the econometric models, the econometricians are beginning to incorporate the Box-Jenkins approach in their models. As Kennedy points out,the new theory of multivariate ARIMA models is providing the econometricians with a methodology that is similar to their simultaneous equation models.One nice feature of the book is that it treats classical linear regression theory early, highlights the key assumptions and then provides specific chapters that cover how to deal with the violations of the assumptions taken one by one.The book is clear, up-to-date and has an excellent bibliography. It introduces the structural econometric time series approach along with multivariate Box-Jenkins methodolgy. Advanced topics such as dealing with roots on the unit circle in Box-Jenkins models and cointegration are covered. Also robust estimation procedures are discussed. It even introduces bootstrap methodology and the Bayesian approach to inference.There is some coverage and some warnings about neural networks. Models for count data, duration, linear structural equations and instrumental variables are all presented in an introductory way.Emphasis is placed early on the concept of sampling distributions for estimators. A clear understanding of sampling distributions is essential to understanding classical frequentist statistical approaches. Much confusion can arise when these concepts are glossed over.

I have tried three econometrics textbooks so far (Johnston and DiNardo, Hayashi and Greene) but this is the only one that I can read without having a headache. This is because aside from its technical contents, it also contains lots of anecdotes that make it a pleasure to read. From this book, I could presume that Prof. Kennedy is not only a great researcher but an excellent teacher too. Even the answers to selected problems are explained thoroughly and clearly. Besides, the price is so affordable. Nevertheless, I would prefer to see the geometry of least squares than the Ballantine-Venn diagram utilized in the book. I also agree that GMM should be included in the subsequent editions.

Although it is not necessary to introduce once again a book that is already this well known, I can say that this "guide" has helped me to understand better some fundamental ideas and techniques of econometrics. It should be read before starting with the "books" on econometrics like Greene or Johnston. Like the title says, the book is only a guide, so further study is necessary for a completer understanding. Although the guide is compact and well written, the structure can sometimes be confusing. Because every topic is divided into an introduction, general notes and technical notes, you will have to read a little bit everywhere to get to know everythhing about a certain topic. I suggest you read through it all. I definitely recommend it to everybody who wants to study or teach econometrics.

Pros: clear structure, easy to read.Cons: I browsed about 8 chapters and found two errors. 1. Header for chapter 7 should be "The Pass-through Tax Deduction" instead of "Interest". 2. Chapter 8, page 207, first paragraph, it says "Points are de minimis if they are less than .0025%" . I checked IRS Publication 527, the correct number is one fourth of 1% which is 0.0025.IMO, There should be better editing since this is a tax book which readers use as reference.Another issue is the book does not provide good cross-reference. Such as the last sentence of the first paragraph on page 218, it says " travel expenses would have had to add to the basis of the property and depreciate them over 27.5 years. (See chapter 5) Based on my knowledge, if travel expense is not start-up costs, it should not be deductible nor capitalized. I went back to Chapter 5, read twice, but could not find related discussion. Cross reference for technical detail like this should at least indicate the line number and the page number.

As a small landlord, I'm always looking for helpful and practical advice, particularly if it helps with taxes, expenses or property management. But it's the sort of book that's helpful to read through once and keep on hand as specific incidents occur.Every Landlord's Tax Deduction Guide is divided into 20 chapters. The Guide begins with an explanation of how landlords are taxed and list which taxes specifically apply to landlord investors and those that actively manage their properties ("business owner"). The guide then discusses the requirements that must be met before operating expenses can be considered deductible and a discussion of the operating expenses that are not deductible. The next chapters discuss how the IRS treats repairs to the property and compares their tax treatment to that of improvements to the property. Subsequent chapters discuss in detail the more complicated deduction of depreciation, interest, start-up expenses, travel expenses, car and transportation expenses, labor expenses (differentiating between employees and independent contractors), as well as casualty and theft losses. What I particularly appreciated about the Guide is that it flags the IRS forms and publications that are relevant to specific complicated situations, such that I know what to research and I need to file when specific situations occur.Also much appreciated are the chapters on record keeping and accounting as well as the final chapter which covers information from the IRS and various online resources.Every Landlord's Tax Deduction Guide is well worth the $35 that I'd paid for it. I am a law student at Yale Law School and my husband is an attorney. We own and I manage about 5 rental properties. This book is absolutely essential for anyone owning a rental property. Do not depend on your accountant as a substitute as most accountants will not know this kind of detailed information about real estate rentals (unless they specialize in it or maybe have their own rentals.) My accountant who has been in practice over 20 years did not know a lot of essential stuff which I had to guide him through(it may be time for a new accountant). If I had not read this book I would have been doomed. Because I can qualify for the unlimited deduction (not just $25,000) for rental losses, we have literally saved tens of thousands of dollars in taxes we would have otherwise had to pay on my husband's salary, legally, with the guidance of this book. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. It is written in a very easy to understand format and gives you almost all the information you need in one place. You cannot rely on others to properly arrange your financial affairs in this specialized area. By reading this book you will know how to buy, finance, and repair properties in ways that produce the most effective tax benefits. Consider yourself lucky that you are aware this book is out there and purchase immediately if you own rentals.

Like every one else I bought this book to learn about deductions. Hands down , it is the BEST MONEY I HAVE SPENT in a very long time. I have not even bought my first investment property yet and already it has saved me 1000's in mistake I WOULD have made! The impression I have had from all these investment gurus has been DEAD WRONG! BUY IT! READ IT! SAVE A FORTUNE in legitimate tax deductions! The author goes in to detail explaining things in a very easy to understand way using examples to show the difference s in more complex tax situations. yes, getting a tax person for complex issues as a definite team member i will be adding, but for the simple start years I figure I can do most of the work my self saving cash on my accountants time. For future years I already will be in the habits and position I will need to take advantage of the laws to gain exemptions the gurus never mentioned!

I will admit, I have not finished this yet and will update when done, so far this is a great book, easy to understand and read. I have read the first 6 chapters and some important ones at the end starting with Chp15.The book is straight forward tax information, no "you can do it" motivation or "how to be a landlord" sections. Just the tax ma'am.Very well organized. Each chapter concentrates on a subject, like "Landlord Tax Classifications" and "Repairs". It describes the basics and the subtleties and then presents real world tax rulings that help clarify the regulations.I recommend this to every landlord, even if you have an accountant. Buy it and deduct it as a business expense! (as the book says)
