I'm just over three months into this calendar and it's been pretty good so far. There are more "good" days than "bad" days so far. Some of the submissions just make you shake your head with our stupid people can be. It's a good buy for somebody looking for a desk calendar, but know your audience. There are some swear words occasionally. It's not fully safe-for-work...

It is as stupid as advertised. For several years now my wife and I have begun every Saturday over coffee as I read the weeks worst. Usually puts a happy spin on the rest of the day. Although sometimes it leaves us speechless and we just shake our heads.

Its too bad the year only has 365 days (366 for leap year) in it as these calendars are funny. A must have on my desk along with the ubiquitous Dilbert desk calendar. As a bonus, I use the pages of the previous days as a note pad.

This is probably my husband's favorite Christmas gift each year. I hope I never have to disappoint him, but since there seems to be no shortage of stupid things being said, I think his Christmas's are safe.

hysterical - buy every year!!!!

The sayings are truly stupid and it gives me a great chuckle everyday. You can probably tell that I don't get out much.

Have purchased this item for at home and at our office, as well as for our two children at their respective homes, for at least a dozen years! It wouldn't seem right for any of us if we didn't have our own "stupid calendar" to open each year on Christmas morning!!!!

I have bought this calendar for at least the last three years because it helps me begin each day with a laugh -- and some make me laugh out loud!

I bought this book for my 7 year old granddaughter who played her first year of basketball this year. She could NOT put this book down, reading it ever spare minute she had. As of now, she has read it several times and says it's her all time favorite. These are great chapter books for the beginners, you can't go wrong in buying one - - or more.

Reading to 3yr old in preparation to starting basketball. Good story.

My 7 year old LOVES the Kylie Jean books! I'm so thankful to have found them! They've really boosted her confidence in reading! This one is great, as are all the others she has read :)

Review

*PRAISE FOR THE ADULT EDITION OF FAR FROM THE TREE: “An informative and moving book that raises profound issues regarding the nature of love, the value of human life, and the future of humanity.” (Kirkus, starred review)"This is one of the most extraordinary books I have read in recent times—brave, compassionate and astonishingly humane. Solomon approaches one of the oldest questions—how much are we defined by nature versus nurture?—and crafts from it a gripping narrative. Through his stories, told with such masterful delicacy and lucidity, we learn how different we all are, and how achingly similar. I could not put this book down.” (Siddhartha Mukherjee, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Emperor of All Maladies)“Solomon is a storyteller of great intimacy and ease…He approaches each family’s story thoughtfully, respectfully…Bringing together their voices, Solomon creates something of enduring warmth and beauty: a quilt, a choir.” (Kate Tuttle The Boston Globe)

I enjoyed the radio interview with the author but was disappointed by the book. I don't think it is very well written and some of the chapters seem rather bigoted and not thoroughly researched. The chapter on Autism really doesn't seem to do justice to the full range of the spectrum for instance.

Wonderful book. I read the adult version a few years ago. I bought this for my niece who wants to go to college for psychology. This was perfect!

This is a marvelous book. I picked it up on a whim at the library and am so glad I did. I’d never even heard of this author!Solomon’s ability to immerse himself in the different situations with such empathy combined with keen clinical analysis is amazing. It reminds me of Tracy Kidder, only with more compassion.I am not a writer; I am a reader. The library was my salvation as a child growing up in an alcoholic home in the wilds of Nevada. Now, I am an old lady who still loves the library. But it’s hard to find good books; I actually checked out “Ulysses” by Joyce last month and realized my intellect is failing. The cool thing about it—well, one—is that you can open it anywhere and it makes sense. Last night I read about dwarves and the children of rape. This morning, I started at the beginning and am almost done with “Deaf”(my word, I had no idea).I just love good writers.

I have been a fan of Andrew Solomon since reading his book FAR AND AWAY. He not only has a way of sharing an experience but also making the reader feel as though they are a part of the narrative. In FAR FROM THE TREE (Young Adult Edition) we get the same experience.Once again drawing on his gift of getting people to open up and share, the book takes us into situations that might seem isolated but once you read them you realize just how common and universal they are. We all know what it's like to face a challenge or difficulty, but how do you keep from letting that define you. The book explores how parents and children can be able to work together instead of against one another to not just understand the other but help the other through what they are going through. Is it going to be easy? More than likely not. But what Andrew shares in the experiences is that it's not just necessary for us to try but the result can be not just a stronger bond but a stronger individual that can help and encourage others.Full of lessons that are great for any age, FAR FROM THE TREE reminds us that no matter what we are stronger together.
