David Gibson (PhD, University of Aberdeen) is minister of Trinity Church in Aberdeen, Scotland. Previously he served as a staff worker for the Religious and Theological Studies Fellowship (part of UCCF) and as an assistant minister at High Church, Hilton, Aberdeen. Gibson is also a widely published author of articles and books such as Rich: The Reality of Encountering Jesus and Reading the Decree: Exegesis, Election and Christology in Calvin and Barth. Jonathan Gibson (PhD, Cambridge University) is associate minister at Cambridge Presbyterian Church and assistant professor of Old Testament at Westminster Theological Seminary. He is the author of historical and biblical articles in Themelios and Journal of Biblical Literature and regularly speaks at conferences in Australia and South Africa. Jonathan and his wife, Jackie, have two children J. I. Packer (DPhil, Oxford University) serves as the Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology at Regent College. The doctrine of Limited Atonement is truly one of the most overwhelming declarations of God's love for His people and sadly one of the most avoided and misunderstood declarations of The Bible. I cannot begin to express the detail and precision with which this teaching has been expressed and defined in this book. I have not often been challenged and driven to know what I know and why I know it as I have by reading this work. It took me nearly a year to truly dig into and digest From Heaven He Came and Sought Her, but I have grown richly in Christ from plowing through this masterpiece. I pray that many will find and read this insightful and delightful work. I want to personally thank the contributing author's for this timeless treasure, and will without hesitation place in on the top shelf of my libraryRomans 11:36

The doctrine of definite atonement is the truth that Christ, before the foundation of the world, chose to die for the elect and bare the wrath for only them.This is the doctrine that is always challenged, and it is a very good challenge! Theologians from John Piper to Sinclair Ferguson to Carl Trueman to Michael Haykin help make this one of the best books I have ever read. This volume looks at the doctrine of definite atonement by looking at the four major ways anyone should ever look at a doctrine; by looking at how it came to be through Church History, where it is in the bible, how it rounded out as a doctrine and how does it apply to practical ministry today. This is no small task either. With over 700 pages and 23 chapters, this book is quite the doozy, but it is well worth its weight in gold.The best part of this book has to be the historical sections on looking at the doctrine of the atonement from the church’s history. Haykin and Trueman’s chapters alone are well worth the price, for getting the insights from two of the best church historians in today’s church is just not something you will get in Seminary.The second best part of the book has to be the pastoral section. It is easy to just theoretically talk about the abstract concepts of different doctrines and such, but to apply it to the battlefield of pastoral ministry when you desperately need to know that Christ did not fail in his mission is unlike anything other to bring comfort to your soul. I believe in unlimited Atonement and thought this book was a well put together case for Limited Atonement. I love the history that is given as well as the graceful delivery of the position. I did not find any of the arguments to be persuasive, but I do believe that they helped me weed poor arguments out of my own understanding. The Rescue is the only First Read option out of six this month that is not either an introspective emotional journey of trauma and drama or the saga of an underdog’s empowerment (henceforth “angst-based drivel” or ABD). For that, it earns 5-stars from me, plus it’s a decent story. Many months, First Read doesn’t even offer one non-ABD option. Why did First Read become the launching pad of its usual drivel? Why not mainline history, Sci-Fi, politics, or heck even cooking or skill building?

Did not read it. The language was inappropriate. I cannot read books with the f*** word used so much. Should be able to write adventure books without that, or similar, words.

Steven Konkoly shines with this new thriller that hits the ground running. A complex thriller that satisfies the want for fast-paced action and a well-told story, THE RESCUE, is a must-read.It immediately drops the reader into a well-drawn world of betrayal, revenge, and redemption. Ryan Decker is a flawed, relatable hero unstoppable in his drive to right every wrong.Konkoly writes with such skill, the reader is there on the streets with hero Decker as he hunts for justice.A brilliant story worthy of a long series.

I've been a long time reader of Mr. Konkoly, and always been impressed how his books drop you right in the middle of the action from page one. He has a unique talent for drawing you into the story without sacrificing other characteristics of great writing including character development and accurate, detailed environments.This new series... wow, what an accomplishment. Ryan Decker is fantastic new protagonist that rivals Mitch Rapp, Jack Reacher, and even Jack Ryan. While murder, betrayal, and revenge may seem like an easy trifecta to write to, Mr. Konkoly does it with such realism and engagement that you can't help but get attached to the characters. Every book he's written is always so well researched, that while the characters are fictional, the environments and situations that he puts them are laced with such detail that you can't help be feeling as if you're right there with Decker, looking over his shoulder. This can only be accomplished by putting in the effort to research every little detail, a true hallmark of Konkoly books.I can't wait to read the next one.

When I first read the synopsis of The Rescue, I was not very interested in it for some reason. Not sure why. Since I have read and really enjoyed all of Konkoly's other books, I decided to give this a chance, and I'm glad I did.The Rescue starts with Ryan Decker and his team trying to save a senator's daughter that was kidnapped when he wasn't supposed to be able to find her. His team gets setup, and he takes the blame. He goes to prison and loses everything.After some time in prison, Decker gets help from an unexpected group and goes after those responsible as they are trying to eliminate him.As with Konkoly's other series, I am now impatiently waiting on the follow up to The Rescue. I am happy that I decided to read this, and you will be as well.

If you are into this genre (Greaney, Coes, Eisler, Berenson, etc..) dont think twice about picking this one up.A LOT happens in the first chapter or two and its slightly confusing. KEEP READING..it all comes together brilliantly. As usual, great characters, clearly a ton of research went into the subject matter and the action scenes (like all of his books) do not disappoint. Would argue that he and Greaney are top 2 in this genre as far as their abilities to incorporate their tactical knowledge into scenes that are so high adrenaline you cant do anything but shake your head and marvel. Finished in 2 days...stuck waiting for the next one!

This mesmerizing, twisty-turny story was an absolute joy to read. The author has used his considerable (and specialized) military knowledge to build a masterfully layered plot with tortured hero Ryan Decker front and center. There is a plethora of wrong-doings Decker's character is compelled to make right. This thrilling first book in the author's new action-driven series tackles issues including the child sex-trade industry in the United States. Honestly, it kept me turning the pages until the very end.

Ryan Decker is framed, sent to prison, and then mysteriously released early only to begin a race to stay alive. He’s a dead man walking until he can uncover and expose the people who framed him. Plenty of action and twists to keep you reading late into the night. Definitely a must read.

This is the book I've been looking for! Others seemed to have only parts of the information or were too deeply centered on just the astrology aspect, or too simplified to be of any use to an experienced gardener. This book gives lots of good information on how to grow each kind of garden plant and several fruit trees as well. It helps you to understand how the weather and time of year affect different plants as well as how the plants affect one another and their soil needs. It gives suggested companion plantings. It is pleasant reading and held my interest for most of the first day I received it. It also explains background and astrological and weather effects and how to work in concert with nature and natural means of enriching the soil etc. Best book purchase I've made all year. Worth the money.

There are many books that talk about the history, philosophy and what to do of Biodynamic gardening but this is the only one I have found that gets down to the specifics of how to do it and when. I have been gardening bio dynamically for 6 years and it really works to grow amazing, delicious, nutritious fruits and vegetables. I hope to present this information, adapted for back yard gardening, at the National Heirloom festival this year (2016).

There's no fluff writing in this book, but with lovely photography and graphics throughout it has been a pleasure to read. The instructions for the preparations are precise and relevance of moon/planet locations is very well explained. Definitely recommend as a starter book for folks interested in biodynamic gardening. I look forward to applying the practices at my farm next season.

I ordered 5 different study guides for Mark and worked the first lesson in each one. I chose this one over all the others. Our group is now on lesson 15 and for the most part find the guide very useful. There are some lessons that are a bit thin, but overall the lessons take 45 minutes to an hour depending on the discussion. There is a leader's guide included in the back which I've found to be useful. We did get several books that were misprinted and had to be returned.

A good study guide. Easy to follow. A great learning tool.
